Have you always wanted to write stories or poems? Have you had some success with writing, but need some support and inspiration to further your writing career?

The Writer’s Room is offering 3 writing workshops designed to jump start your process, facilitated by writer Kathy Para, MFA, with awards for both fiction and poetry. The workshops use both theory and practice to bring your work to the next level. Bring your original work and be prepared to write.

Fiction: The Hero’s Journey

6 Wednesdays (7-9pm) Oct 1 – Nov 5 $179.

This archetypal storytelling structure is a universal form that resonates in our DNA. We will discuss the Hero, conflict, narrative drive, causality and effective exposition. We’ll also talk about the publishing process and inspire ourselves with writing exercises. Your original short stories will be workshopped in a constructive, respectful atmosphere. Full participation is required. A final literary reading that includes all Writer’s Room participants will be arranged at the end of the course.

Poetry 101: Introduction to the art of words

6 Thursdays (7-9pm) Oct 2 – Nov 6 $179.

Do you see things that everyone else seems to miss? Do you think in images? Have you always wanted to write poetry, but never felt like there was a space in your life till now? We’ll talk about images, language, voice, and forms while producing work for the class. The feedback will be constructive and respectful and help beginning writers see their work objectively. Full participation is required. A final literary reading that includes all Writer’s Room participants will be arranged at the end of the course.

The Poetry Manuscript

6 Saturdays (10am-12pm) Oct 4 – Nov 8 $179.

Have you had poems published in literary magazines? Participated in readings? Your next step is to develop a book length project. We’ll discuss possible structures: confessional; associative; thematic, and work on sequences of poems for constructive and respectful class feedback. Full participation is required.
